Dear TP, I would love to have more letters from physicians. It
appears they don't care to discuss the scientific and ethical merits of
ADHD/Ritalin practice. I am now retired, but I was a career-long
neurologist/child neurologist (board certified in both) , first in Grand
Rapids, Michgan, and for the last 18 years of my practice, in San Diego,
California.. I was in private practice throughout, making disease vs. no
disease determinations daily. Through the years of my practice, I
discovered and described several real, bona fide, diseases. I could
never find a physical/medical basis for ADHD, the LDs, of for any
psychiatric disorder (which they represent to be diseases) whatsoever.
You ask me: "What do you propose as a solution?" Responding to this
question I ask you, what is there that makes anything medical of the
behaviors said to constitute ADHD or of the educational/scholastic
failures said to consitute so-called learning disabilities or of any
psychiatric disorder? If there are no proven, detectable, diagnosable,
physical or chemical abnormalities in such children, where is the need
for medical referral, much less, 1, 2, 5, 8 or 10 psychiatric drugs? How
often in your practice do you diagnose ADHD? Conduct disorder?
Oppositional defiant disorder? dyslexia? What percent do you write a
drug prescription for? In what percent have you demonstrated an
objective physical or chemical abnormality? You, like I are an MD.
You, like I know it takes the demonstration/proof/diagnosis of a
physical or a chemical abnormality to allow us to say a patient is
abnormal/diseased, as opposed to normal/not diseased. Let us discuss
this issue. 5-6 million US schoolchildren are said to have ADHD and are
on addictive, dangerous, sometimes deadly Ritalin/amphetamine drugs. I
will look forward to your reply.
